So yesterday, Banj was asked a question that on the face of it seems quite simple: what is your favourite film? That should be easy to answer, right? You'd think so, but I have no idea what the answer is. As a film fanatic of a lifetime's standing, it's not actually that straightforward, there are so many of them. And I've honestly never thought of it before, for any of my characters. So I should. What fits them? How obscure can they go? Would it make any sense for Banj to name a silent film (no, probably not, though more so than her siblings at least)? Should the choice say something profound about their personalities? Or am I overthinking things? It's probably that, isn't it?

Apparently it's the law that everyone has to have at least one weebly blog post where they go on about how terribly busy there are in RL, and consequently dirt-slow on Popo. So here's mine!
Truth be told, it's a bit more "here's how busy I've been", but that's the thing, see, when you're busy you don't have time to tell people you're busy. Unless you're procrastinating. Which I am permanently: at any given moment, there are at least five things I should be doing which I'm not. So, yes, I've been a bit preoccupied. With VOMIT!!! Once again, I'm celebrating summer (or what passes for one here this year, it's basically been slightly warmer rain) by puking my guts up and feeling like shit. This is the worst annual tradition evar. I'm heading off to the doc on Wednesday, ostensibly to to ask for MOAR DRUGS for one thing, but now I'll be armed with a list of Terrible Things Which Are Wrong With Me (medical section only: the rest isn't really his department. Unless there's a pill for lazy crankiness? I should definitely ask). I wasn't exactly massively active before that either, I somehow manage to not get shit done without actually being away properly at all. No sunny holidays for me. No disappointing crappy weather ones either. Being poor sucks. Hopefully I'll have a vague uptick in in-game activity this week, but if I don't, then it's not you, it's me. Doing my best sickly Victorian waif impression. So ready your fainting couches, just in case. Noticed anything odd in Popo lately? No, not young Mr Bastard going about his criminal business, something else. I have. Well, I say odd, the root of it has been around as long as the game has, it's more the official (non)reaction to it that seems new and peculiar. I'm talking about this: Or, if you prefer (and if you do, seek help), this: Yes, it's clones. Clones everywhere! Running amok, out in the open, not even trying to be remotely subtle about it! What gives? Is it a summer boredom thing? Do these people literally have nothing better to do with their time?
So here's a few examples of those currently on the prowl. The Ancient One returns: so a new character turns up and seems a bit... off. Said character then posts a weird thread in a city forum where he chats to himself, and posts a whole load of guff about a past life in Popo that makes it obvious to me who they used to be (someone who repeatedly got bans for abusive behaviour and ended up laked for it, as it happens). Some days later, another new character appears. They promptly get in a forum fight while supposedly asking for poison, going on about those same olden days. And this one turns out to have the close relative background of the person I recognised the other guy as. And it's two accounts. And they're both still here, untouched. The One with the Known Issues: so this one appears to be a rather vulnerable person in real life, so I won't dwell on it too much. Remember an It's Pop article lately about Santa? Remember how a whole bunch of the letters to Santa seemed remarkably similar? There's a reason for that. The "quoter" of random "words" has form for this kind of thing, and keeps popping back for more. My tip for them though? DON'T BE SO FUCKING GREEDY. No, you and your clones can't have a bunch of expensive items you don't need, stop trying to take advantage of other people's generosity. And then there's the big one. Big in my world, anyway, as those are the environs it's latched onto for dear life. Yep, it's the Multi-headed Floral Hydra. You chop three off, they grow more back (another of the admitted clones came back with a new identity just today - yes, we know, we're watching). This charming plagiariser, with the same blatantly obvious pretentious wannabe, painfully faux-hip "ooh get me I'm so wild and outrageous" bollocks across her multiple accounts, and the multiple characters on those accounts is quite the doozy. What's the motivation? Is it for the blog likes? Those always were a bit too high for Jilly-no-mates to be getting right out of the block, weren't they? Is it some weird fixation on certain players? Those multiple characters certainly do try to grab the attention of the same people over and over again. Is it so their own characters can interact with each other, so they look super-active and popular? It's slightly tragic when three characters controlled by the same player indulge in threesomes, quite the hilarity for the growing number of onlookers who know exactly what's going on. Because, yes. Most people already know. And more will in the future. The authorities don't seem to give a shit these days, especially not when the cloners spend stupid amounts of money on credits. But your fellow players do. Because you're lying to them. And that does matter, even in a dumb online game. If your interactions with others are all based on deceit, then don't expect to be trusted in return. I have no idea what the plan there is, or even where the player gets the time, but it's all rather pathetic. I alternate between scorn and pity as my main reaction to this whole palaver. Neither of those is a reaction anyone sane would really want people to have of them, you'd think, but who knows. I really really really don't get it. |
