... I'd rather avoid the nuts. Unfortunately, it's apparently not mutual, they seek me out. And make all sorts of OOC accusations on the Popo forum. Repeatedly. Over months. And get away with it. And people complain about harsh moderation these days? Apparently you can say whatever you like and get away with it. Just because I can stand up for myself doesn't mean it should be okay to attack in the first place...
So that's whine number one. A warning, there will be MOAR WHINING, I've got a lot of it to get out. And now for number two. It's Olympics related, in that that's where a particular set of issues became clear. One of them being this: there are always some people who are happy to criticise the efforts of other people while making no effort whatsoever to do anything community-minded themselves. It's often the same people on either side, you'll notice the same names time and again if you observe for long enough. Some people go out of their way to make things happen, others snipe from the sidelines and find problems with what they do. Dirk Bekkering's puppetmaster has been super-busy lately, but still made the effort to reappear in time to set up the Olympics schedule for everyone. Did you notice the praise for his efforts in the forum? Or did you just see a list of complaints and questions, and whining about how it wasn't the most Perfect schedule ever scheduled? It's always the same way. The same thing happened last time (with particular hostility coming from a Berlin direction, who couldn't even get it together to send a team this time, they're so preoccupied by sniping at each other). The same thing happens repeatedly with pretty much any effort to do anything fun for others. Remember those series of competitions run via the Doc Snuggles forum? The ones where certain parties repeatedly wrecked them by sniping at the organisers, the judges, the other contestants? Yep, same thing. Tear down, but never build. And the ones doing the sniping don't even seem to realise they're doing it. Or at least I hope they don't, or they're even more obnoxious than suspected. No, you just get people who don't play nicely with others involving themselves in efforts while continually whining about how awful they are. See also: scheduling. So there's an international event on. There are multiple sporting events with different timetables needing completed. Maybe you even control multiple characters competing at said events. You're not going to be around much, and a few of your characters have been seen sniping at the event organiser (oh look, there it is again). And yet, there's no indication from the characters taking part that they won't be available much. So, despite being notified in multiple places that a match is scheduled, they don't show up for it and go elsewhere to clashing subsequent events instead. And then get SHOCKED! And OFFENDED! when the original opponent is pissed off. So again with the OOC accusations of harassment (this is beginning to be a theme too). My advice: if you can't play nicely with others, if you can't show some consideration, then don't play. You're not obligated to take part in things you're only going to cast a shadow over with your negativity again (a programming note for those who don't know what I'm on about here: check out the Glasgow forum Olympics thread. it's ever such fun...). I've lost track now, is that three or four whines? Difficult to tell when they're inter-related :D Okay, the final one for now. A handy tip for all: if you don't want to sound like a racist or a xenophobe, the best way to avoid this is to not take to the forum spouting racist and xenophobic shit. The talking points of 19th century eugenicists have no place in an international music-based roleplaying game in the 21st century. And publicly proclaiming your fear of anything which is personally unknown to you says way more about you than it does about the things, and people, you fear. I will never understand why people who are hostile to The Foreign even play a game with an international community to start with. But if they do, keeping that shit to themselves would probably be quite wise, all things considered. Right, enough whining. I'm going to go back admire my Sir Mixalot pastiche some more. Adios.
